Fidessa Implementation Experience 

August 2005 to November 2008 – Macquarie Securities, Hong Kong

Development and implementation of project source control process, policy and infrastructure.

Lead role in developing process for rollouts, rollout plan templates etc. Reportedly achieved new standards of quality.

Team-lead and supervision of project teams for specific project goals.

Performance tuning for this multi-region enterprise implementation.

New installation, product upgrades, many other functional changes.

Modifications to TOP and CTAC (client and server) as required to support Asian middle office practices, including:

  • Japan. Correct calculation of consideration, commission and consumption tax calculations. Supported odd-lot allocations, hybrid clients for average and execution price allocations, capped and scale commissions.

  • Taiwan. Accurate consideration calculation, including execution-level average price calculations for FIX.

  • Korea. Average and Execution booking price calculations. Sales and agricultural tax for OTC odd-lot trades supported at booking and allocation time, including automatic re-allocation of sales tax for odd and round-lot allocations and manual adjustment facility.

Main product involvement: TOP, CTAC, FDA, FIX, APAS, AMMA and FTW.

September 2004 to August 2005 – Optiver and WestLB

Optiver Highlights

Low-latency tuning and general implementation changes to OMAR, EMMA and FIX/ FEC installations

Setup and conformance testing for several ECNs (including Instinet, E*Trade)

Instrumental in convincing Fidessa to release FIX+

Re-factoring of highly customised site-specific changes as part of a product upgrade

April 2001 to July 2002 – Fortis Bank, Amsterdam and Brussels

Team lead for the first ever Euronext implementation. Fortis was the first market participant to connect successfully to the Euronext test session and the first to pass certification.

Lead team of 6 in Amsterdam and Brussels (project was two-centred)

Implementation of the Euronext Brussels and Amsterdam connections, including message-level debugging and significant gateway message formatting changes to set up the Euronext gateways correctly.

Development of various datastream configurations to support trade reconciliation, settlement etc.

September 2000 to March 2001 – Mizuho Securities, Tokyo

Team lead position with two senior implementation consultants and three new-starters.

Modifications to JMIS' ToSTNet gateway, in conjunction with feedback through weekend exchange testing. At that time, exchange test sessions were limited to a few hours on weekends.

Modifications to ActiveX allocation objects and server-side code to support the middle-office functions.

December 1997 to March 1999 - Credit Suisse First Boston, London

Design and development of new ActiveX FTW objects, using Visual Basic, and TCL, converting the Fidessa front-end from the use of X-Windows objects to FTW. These were ultimately absorbed into the first product releases of FTW.

Fidessa server product code modifications using c++. Euro currency and Y2K migration.

Design and development of a full-featured stock exchange simulator, implementing Hong Kong stock exchange communications protocols and simulating live market behaviour.

Developed in Java, using Spring and Hibernate frameworks, RMI, NetBeans Rich Client Platform (RCP) and MySQL database. Eclipse and NetBeans IDEs.

Fidessa Ltd Hong Kong

Senior Implementation Consultant        August 2005 to December 2008

Fidessa implementation consultancy at Macquarie Bank, replacing their Market Trader system with Fidessa for London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, Seoul and Sydney.

Major customisation work from global multi-node installations to latency-critical electronic trading set-ups. OMAR, TMAR, CTAC, FDA, FTW, FTS, APAS, FIX, EMMA and AMMA.

Fidessa PLC London, England

Senior Implementation Consultant        September 2004 to August 2005

Fidessa implementation consultancy for installations in The Netherlands and London/ Germany.

Working split-time on two client projects:

In the Netherlands, focus was on performance, particularly time-to-market, rollouts to European exchanges and ECNs in the U.S. I was the only Fidessa consultant assigned to this client at the time.

In London, a senior role helping to perform an upgrade of a highly customised Fidessa installation, at the same time as building out new functionality, connecting to Fidessa's new connectivity network, which is now known as FidessaNet. Performing rollouts and post-go-live support.

Freelance software development for various organisations, mainly on Windows, using c++, Visual Basic, Microsoft SQL server. Clients included Task Technology (retail point-of-sale vendor), Deaf Association of New Zealand, Wharehine Group.

Royalblue Financial PLC Tokyo, Brussels and Amsterdam

Technical Team Leader                            September 2000 to March 2002

Job function: Lead a team of 6, on two sites. Implementation of multi-site, multi-business Fidessa system from one set of servers, liaising with traders, management and IT staff to define requirements.

Responsibilities included:

  • Assigning project responsibilities, motivation, training, forecasting and reporting to management

  • Design and development of ActiveX trading dialogs for NT4 workstations, using Visual Basic and TCL

  • Requirements analysis with head traders, client developers & system architects

  • Server scripting and configuration including datastreams, EuroNext go-live, retail banking interfaces

  • Modification of FTS, OMAR, EMMA and FDA

  • Customisation of JMIS interface software to Tokyo stock exchange (c++ on Solaris)

Task Technology Ltd. Auckland, New Zealand

  • Requirements analysis and software design for point-of-sale related applications.

  • Supervision of point-of-sale developers and improvement of the software development process at Task.

  • Developed multi-threaded virtual device driver, for Windows NT, in c++.

Business: the leading supplier of Equities Trading Systems to major financial institutions in the UK.

Job function: Software development and commissioning of Fidessa. Liaising with traders, management and IT staff to define requirements, explain system functionality and to support acceptance testing.

Responsibilities included:

  • Development of ActiveX trade entry objects on Windows NT4 workstations, using Visual Basic, and TCL

  • Code modification on UNIX servers using c++

  • Requirements analysis with Traders and on-site technical support teams,
